This recognition highlights the school’s outstanding efforts in providing innovative educational programs and comprehensive services to at-risk youth.
In a February announcement, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond named Rose City High School as one of only 74 schools across the state to receive the MCHS distinction for 2025. The Model Continuation High School program is designed to acknowledge schools that offer exceptional support to students who may face significant challenges in completing their high school education.
“We celebrate 74 commendable schools for their tremendous efforts as alternative campuses of learning,” said Superintendent Thurmond. “The priority of our Model Continuation High Schools is to give students more than a diploma. The teachers and administrators aim to provide students with a student-centered approach that meets their diverse academic, social, and emotional needs and opportunities to explore options beyond high school, preparing students for the future whether they choose to pursue further education or join the workforce.”
The MCHS recognition is a reflection of Rose City High School’s commitment to providing an enriching educational experience. The school’s programs are known for their flexibility and personalized approach, which include innovative instructional strategies, flexible scheduling, and a robust system of guidance and counseling services. These features are designed to meet the unique needs of students who are at risk of not completing their education.
“Our diverse programs are tailored to ensure that every student has the support they need to succeed,” said Rose City High School principal Michael Bell. “We are proud of the work we do and strive to provide an enriching and stimulating school experience that empowers our students to reach their full potential.”
The Model Continuation High School recognition program, sponsored by the CDE’s Educational Options Division in collaboration with the California Continuation Education Association Plus (CCEA Plus), acknowledges schools that go above and beyond in providing opportunities for students who might otherwise be left behind. Continuation high schools like Rose City play a vital role in offering a second chance for students to earn their high school diploma, equipping them with the tools necessary to succeed in the next chapter of their lives.
