South Pasadena Fire Department crews, assisted by units from the Pasadena and Glendale Fire Departments, responded to a reported rescue at approximately 5:52 pm on January 24, 2026, in the 2000 block of Hanscom Drive in the City of South Pasadena.

The first arriving unit was advised that an individual had fallen from the second story of a hillside residence into a ravine below. Firefighter paramedics located the patient approximately 200 feet down the hillside, where the individual had sustained significant injuries. The patient was stabilized at the scene.
Urban Search and Rescue teams from the Pasadena and Glendale Fire Departments responded to assist with the operation, providing overhead lighting and establishing a rope rescue system to safely extricate the patient from the hazardous terrain.
The rescue effort took approximately one hour to access the patient and complete the extrication. Once removed from the ravine, the patient was transferred to a waiting ambulance and transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital.
An investigation by the South Pasadena Police Department determined that the fall was accidental.
