Matsukaze, a classical vocalist and stage actor, lives in Lake Charles Louisiana. He has been writing tanka for 10 years. His pen name means ‘Pine Winds’.

Opie Houston is from Austin, Texas. He trained young people in the Air Force when he was 26 years old. He has six kids, and taught English/Lit/Creative Writing 15 years at Austin Community College. Opie loves “playing the wizard teacher” for two of his six grand-kids. His thesis at Texas St was The “Sonnet, its origin and evolution”.

Taura Scott is a Pasadena poet who is known by some of her friends as Tanka Taura.
! Tanka comes to us from ancient Japan. It is older than haiku, and a little longer, allowing for emotional expansion and more lyricism. Tanka means “little song”.

dewdrops beading
on the back of a cygnet
the color of clouds
carry me along

Taura’a tanka are always unique and unexpected. Heartwarming here, but sometimes sad. I like them all.
