The Partnership for Children, Youth and Families invites all community members and families to join Mayor Victor Gordo, best-selling author Dr. Tina Bryson, and D’Veal Family and Youth Services Founder Pastor John McCall at a rally to call out for the need for increased mental health services. Speakers and members of the community will acknowledge the difficulties many residents face around mental health issues. They will share resources, help, and hope for those who struggle.
Of particular concern are the young. Research shows that almost 1 in 5 high school students report bullying and are at an increased risk for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, and lower academic achievement. Trauma, social isolation, relationship conflicts, and violence are a few of the things thought to be contributors to mental health instability among preteens and teens. The suicide rate in the US for people ages 10 – 24 rose an alarming 62% from 2007 to 2021.
“The current state of our children and youth is alarming and we must all step up to do what we can. The PCYF partners are an amazing group of organizations in Pasadena who, since 1989, have been committed to changing the trajectory of the lives of kids and families in this community,” said Mayor Victor Gordo.
Resources from local agencies and city departments will be at the rally, along with fun activities for children at The Partnership for Children, Youth and Families partner Day One’s outdoor space across the street.
