A steady stream of honks, even from passing Teslas, echoed in support of the protest outside the Tesla dealership in Alhambra, where a handful of demonstrators held signs that read, “We didn’t elect Elon” and “Say No to Plutocracy!”

Victor, an Alhambra resident for 30 years but now living in adjacent San Marino, was one of the protestors standing outside 1200 W. Main Street. This was his tenth protest so far, alternating between those he finds posted on the takedownteslas website. A geriatric care social worker, Victor is deeply concerned about cuts to Social Security and Medicare. “Sell it!” he called out to a passing white Tesla.
Victor said there has been a mixed reaction from Tesla drivers when he urges them to sell their vehicles. He recounted one encounter where a Tesla driver told him he couldn’t sell because he was “upside down” on his car loan.
The group has been meeting since early February, gathering every Friday at 7:00 pm, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, rain or shine.
David, an Alhambra resident, joined the protest after work and picked up a sign. He noticed that previous protests had seen more people, but said that regardless of whether or not Musk continues to play a role in the current administration, he would keep protesting. He believes Musk will continue to be a problem by funneling money into supporting the worst political candidates.
Another demonstrator, Thanos of San Gabriel, said, “We will be here regardless of what happens to Musk. The system is allowing felons to be elected president, and that’s the problem.”
