Pris Campbell
a fierce wind
undresses the maples
i wonder
if his scattered ashes
pass me unseen at night
Pris Campbell says “After living in numerous places across the U.S. I settled in the Greater West Palm Beach with my husband of 31 years. This tanka was inspired by the recent death of my first husband whom I married in Hawaii after his first tour of Vietnam. His ashes were scattered this spring”.

S. M. Abeles
I can see you
astride the mound
spitting
into the same wind
that blows your long hair
S. M. Abeles lives and writes in Washington, D.C. He submitted this on his birthday in honor of his most durable old love — himself, as a long ago baseball star.

Natalia L. Rudychev
eyes closed
i feel the bricks releasing
the warmth of lives
that graced them
with their presence
Natalia L. Rudychev lives in New York City. She is fascinated with NYC street art, and recently presented a paper on graffiti art at a philosophy conference. The sun-warmed bricks brought the warmth of old loves to her mind.

Kath Abela Wilson
400 years
and then one windstorm
whitewashed at the breaks
I think of the story
of my old love
Just days after her return from a month in Asia, Kathabela Wilson led Poets on Site in a special program for the Pasadena Oaks held by Jennifer Bentson. Wafic Kahlil attended and was able to catch the last three lines of her tanka (you can hear her accompanied by Rick Wilson on shakuhachi -Japanese amboo flute- on video above).
