POETRY CORNER
– 03/15/17
Hosted by Kathabela Wilson
Tom’s inspiring poems and images prompted this Poetry Corner. The stunning idea of his that in the mirroring stream we put fallen leaves back on our trees is restorative and hopeful, as the effects of his poetry always are. What else can we do when we look into a mirror?

fallen leaves
back to bare branches…

Johannes S. H. Bjerg
in a monologue
turned in on itself
the rain falls –
after a day in silence
I tell jokes to the mirror
Johannes S. H. Bjerg lives ”in a sleepy village surrounded by ancient burial mounds in Denmark. Here he tries to listen, just listen”.

Patty Hardin
the old woman in the mirror
claims to be me
but i deny it knowing
the lines on my face
tell a different story
Patty Hardin in Long Beach, Washington says: “I looked in my bathroom mirror one morning only to see my mother watching me. Will my daughter look in her mirror one day, denying I look back at her?”

Haibun: to the store
It seems my travels are small, I go all the time in small circles. To the store, back again to the woods. To the doctor, back again to the woods. To the feed mill, back again to the woods. In small circles sometimes I forget my keys, and sometimes I forget my hat, my hat gets angry if I leave it home.
I lock the door
this is all about time
tracks in the sand
going both ways ~ out and in
again ~ I unlock the dooragain ~ I unlock the door
going both ways ~ out and in
tracks in the sand
this is all about time
I lock the door(James, did you lock the door?)
James W. McRight Jr. lives in Walterboro SC. He says: “Been writing poetry for some 20 years now. I came up with the idea of the mirror image tanka because, I think a tanka is not finished reading until it is read in reverse, therefore a tanka is not finished writing until it can be read in reverse, the mirror image.”
