In response to the Extreme Heat Warning affecting the San Gabriel Valley, the City of South Pasadena has set up two Cooling Centers to help residents cope with the intense heat. The centers, located at the South Pasadena Senior Center and the South Pasadena Public Library, will remain open as long as outdoor temperatures exceed 96°F.

The Cooling Centers offer a refuge from the soaring temperatures, providing access to air-conditioned spaces, public Wi-Fi, computers, and free literature. Residents can also take part in several activities and events hosted by the Senior Center, including yoga and line dancing for adults aged 55+ (with a $5 walk-in fee). Additionally, free hearing screenings will be offered by appointment on August 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm.
On August 22, the Senior Center will host a functional fitness session (also with a $5 walk-in fee) and a free screening of The Life List at 1:00 pm. The City encourages residents to check the online calendar for further details on upcoming programs and events.
While attendees are welcome to bring service animals, pets are not allowed in the Cooling Centers.
