Another new year, another new group of Pasadena lovers, gathered to celebrate the Crown City’s annual birthday at the Pasadena Museum of History.

      By Mike Pashistoran

It was a good turnout, and a great time with a festival-like atmosphere filling the air. For the lucky people who showed up for the 130th birthday celebration Sunday afternoon, this is some of what they saw:  (Videos courtesy of our Instagram).

      People

Lovers of Pasadena, city residents and neighbors from nearby cities mingled around, enjoying all the planned events, including the museum’s summer exhibition and meeting the Queen of the Carnival, Sunny Stevenson.

      City dignitaries

Pasadena’s Mayor, Terry Tornek, Vice Mayor Gene Masuda, and Councilmember Andy Wilson were on hand to cut the cake. Representatives of the Pasadena Museum of History and other city organizations such as the Pasadena Jaycees, Chief of Police Phillip L. Sanchez, The Shakespeare Club, and civic leaders such as former Mayor/Councilman Bill Thomson and Miss Pasadena USA 2016, Alexandria Hernandez.

Notably missing from the city’s birthday celebration were Councilmembers Tyron Hampton, Victor Gordo, John J. Kennedy and Margaret McAustin.

      Entertainment

Southern California Band Organs were spread around the museum grounds playing their music. And the Circus Aerial Dance performances were a big highlight and definitely attracted and thrilled the crowd!

      Cake

What kind of a birthday would it be without a birthday cake? Pasadena had several cakes to satisfy the sweet tooth of all, donated by Baja Ranch Supermarket.

Attending Pasadena’s birthday party is something everyone who loves the city — but never attended — should add to their bucket list.

Big kudos go to Jeanette O’Malley, Bradford MacNeil, Jeanette Bovard, everyone from the Pasadena Museum of History, the sponsors, and all the volunteers who played a major role in putting on this big birthday party — HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PASADENA!
