Rose City and Adult Education moves

Classrooms and restrooms were prepared, and a new driveway with landscaping was installed on the north side of the former Wilson Middle School, as Rose City High School and PUSD’s Adult Education program will now reside at Wilson, joining PUSD’s Center for Independent Study (CIS) which moved there a few years ago.

      Restrooms

The district reports on renovations of school restroom facilities at the following schools:

      Eliot Arts Magnet

The renovation of second-floor restrooms began in June 2024 and is scheduled to be completed by the first day of school. The renovations include new tiling, waterproofing, flooring, floor drains, and plumbing fixtures.

      Willard Elementary

The second-floor restrooms are being renovated and are on track to be completed by the first day of school. The renovations include new tiling, waterproofing (which includes testing), flooring, and fixture installation.

      Health and Safety Projects

Work was done at the following schools this summer:

      Willard Elementary

Major asphalt work has been completed on the walkways, patios, and other hardscape areas. Privacy fencing has been installed along Del Mar Blvd. Permeable pathways around the school’s field and new natural play spaces are also being installed. Work on the school field, such as leveling and grass restoration will continue after the school year begins.

      Sierra Madre Elementary

Renovations include the installation of a new playground structure with rubber surfacing, asphalt repair and restoration, fencing, and the removal of the wall ball. Privacy fencing has been installed along Hermosa Ave. Upcoming work includes the replacement of chain link fencing, the restoration of fence posts, sealing and striping of the playground, and the painting of some low walls.

The school’s track is being reconditioned, aluminum edging has been installed around the south end of the track, and asphalt is being replaced in the main quad. Work will continue during the school year on the main field to restore the main field, goal posts, and chain link fencing.

      San Rafael Elementary

Work has begun to address electrical concerns. They should be completed at the end of the 2024-25 school year.

      Other Projects

The following projects were completed or still in progress:

      Madison Elementary

A temporary chiller to provide relief from hot temperatures has been installed and is in service. New permanent chillers are being built and are scheduled for installation in November 2024.

      Sierra Madre Elementary

A new electrical vault has been installed. A new chiller is being installed and expected to be completed before the start of school.

      Security Door Lockset Replacement

A comprehensive project to replace locksets has been completed at 16 sites, with more underway. The initiative to enhance security is a major undertaking: 69 locks were replaced at a single campus.

      Accessibility Upgrades

Projects focusing on improving accessibility, such as ramps, pathways, and minor restroom reconfigurations, are underway to ensure that our campuses are accessible to all community members. These upgrades are expected to be completed by the start of school at five out of six sites.

      Pasadena High School Campus

The $4.9 million project is modernizing the school’s front entrance, expanding the interior lobby, and adding accessibility upgrades, landscaping, and irrigation systems. Renovations include new

      • front entry canopy,
      • ramps and concrete walkways,
      • landscaping and irrigation systems,
      • new doors and windows on the south facade of the administration building,
      • and a new flagpole.

The project is in three phases, to be completed by the end of Summer 2025.

Maybe Sierra Madre can get irrigation to the east side of campus?, I have been hand watering the trees. This is 4th summer of dragging hoses, yes I contacted school, yes I contacted PUSD. The construction guys chopped up a beautiful oak tree, we could have replanted.
