In response to the recent tragedy of a school shooting in Minneapolis, Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) is reinforcing its commitment to student safety and mental health support within the district.

In an open letter to the PUSD community, Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco expressed condolences for the Minneapolis community and reassured local families that the district remains dedicated to creating a safe, supportive environment for all students.
“We are holding the Minneapolis community in our hearts,” said Dr. Blanco, emphasizing the district’s continued efforts to prevent such tragedies. She further explained that PUSD is committed to providing intervention, support, and services to students who may be impacted by these events.
The letter highlighted the importance of maintaining steady routines and the presence of caring adults during challenging times. “Children need reassurance, and a consistent learning environment centered on calm routines and care is crucial right now,” Blanco stated.
Recognizing the profound effects that incidents of gun violence can have on both children and adults, the district encourages community members to seek support as needed. Families can access mental health services through their providers, as well as campus resources available at PUSD’s wellness page (pusd.us/wellness).
To further assist educators and parents, the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) has compiled a variety of resources (click here) aimed at helping adults talk to students about safety, violence, and coping strategies. These resources also include support for adults experiencing emotional distress.
Superintendent Blanco concluded her message with a reaffirmation of the district’s mission: “We are committed to doing everything we can to support our students and ensure that they feel safe, cared for, and supported.”
