District officials stated that PUSD is currently operating within its financial reality and remains on a stable fiscal path approved by the Board of Education. While the district continues to face long-term financial pressures due to declining enrollment across the region, the Board adopted a Fiscal Stabilization Plan in December 2025 that was accepted by the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
According to the district, the Board-approved budget reflects difficult and deliberate decisions made at both the central office and school sites to preserve teaching and learning while maintaining financial solvency. District leaders said these actions allow PUSD to remain on course without cutting core academic programs or disrupting students’ daily school experiences.
PUSD emphasized that students will continue to learn, grow, and participate in school activities. Instructional programs, student supports, arts and music, athletics, expanded learning opportunities, and services for students with specialized needs remain in place. Schools remain open, staffed, and focused on students.
The district reiterated its commitment to students, employees, and families. The Los Angeles County Office of Education has recommended that PUSD monitor the causes of deficit spending in order to keep it manageable and minimize further erosion of the fund balance.
District officials said addressing budget realities now is intended to protect classroom learning and student programs both in the present and in the future. Additional information about the district’s fiscal status is available on PUSD’s budget webpage at pusd.us/budget.
