As part of a special meeting January 16, 2025, dealing with actions required because of the damage to the school district’s facilities in the Eaton fire, the PUSD board will be considering Resolution 2800 titled “OUR COMMITMENT TO REBUILDING ELIOT ARTS MAGNET.”
By Rena Kurlander
The historic campus was the only one of the five PUSD-owned sites that were damaged or destroyed in the Eaton fire that housed a regular, non-charter PUSD school.
The other four sites were either not occupied by a school (Franklin Elementary) or were occupied by charter schools (Edison, Loma Alta, Noyes) and a private school (part of Loma Alta).
Resolution 2800 refers to the noted architects of Marston and Maybury who designed the school during the Great Depression and the opening of the school in 1931. The resolution also calls out the descriptions of the campus over the years as one of the most beautiful in Southern California.
The resolution also refers to statements by the governor and state superintendent of schools for California expressing their support for the rebuilding of schools.
The public session of the board meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:45 pm.
