The City of Pasadena announced today that the temporary shelter at the Pasadena Convention Center will remain operational for approximately one more week.

The extension, confirmed on Thursday, February 6, in a statement released by the city, provides additional time for officials to identify a suitable site for relocation.
During this period, portable trailers offering showers, restrooms, and laundry services will be relocated to the west side of the convention hall to better accommodate guests, according to the city’s statement.
The official statement in its entirety:
The County of Los Angeles and the American Red Cross continue to search for a new site to relocate the shelter and/or find interim housing for shelter residents. Today, (Thursday, February 6th), the City of Pasadena, Pasadena Convention Center and American Red Cross confirmed the ability to operate the shelter at the Convention Center for approximately another week until the shelter can be relocated. The City will continue to support this effort to ensure everyone receives the care and assistance they need. In the meantime, the portable trailers for showers, restrooms and laundry will be relocated to the west side of the convention hall.”
The extension follows comments from members of the public and evacuees at the Pasadena City Council meeting on Monday, February 3, expressing concerns about closing the shelter without finding an alternative. After local community advocates and evacuees scheduled a press conference for Wednesday, February 5, outside the Pasadena Convention Center to demand action from the City and the American Red Cross to secure housing, the City issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to “helping those affected recover and rebuild,” while also admonishing those spreading “misinformation and rumors.”
Meanwhile, the shelter at the Convention Center will remain open until it can be relocated.
