On Saturday, November 1, 2025, Pasadena Presbyterian Church (PPC) will present a special post-Halloween screening of the 1920 silent film Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, featuring a live organ score performed by PPC’s Director of Music and Organist, Timothy Howard.
By John Boucher
The event begins at 7:30 pm in the church’s sanctuary and is free to the public; a voluntary offering will be encouraged. Howard will debut his original score for the silent horror classic on PPC’s renowned Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ.
The film stars legendary actor John Barrymore in the dual role of Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde. It is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, as adapted for the stage in 1887 by Thomas Russell Sullivan. The story famously explores the duality of human nature and the internal struggle between good and evil.
Timothy Howard is an experienced silent film accompanist, having previously composed and performed scores for Nosferatu (1922) and other silent-era films. This screening marks the first public performance of his score for Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.
A reception will follow the screening.
