      By Rena Kurlander

Read on for the latest updates and upcoming events you won’t want to miss.

      – Landlords: Rental Registry Deadline Approaching

Pasadena landlords are reminded to register all residential rental units with the city by October 31, 2025 to avoid late fees. The second annual Rental Registry cycle, which began on September 1, includes a $238 per unit registration fee. A grace period without penalty extends to November 7, but late fees of up to 50% will apply after that.

      – Pasadena to Host Workshop on New Rent Stabilization Rules

The City of Pasadena is hosting an informational workshop on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. to educate tenants and landlords about major updates to the city’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance, which take effect on October 1. The workshop, held at the Los Robles Building and accessible via Zoom, aims to promote understanding and compliance with the new regulations under Charter Amendment Article XVIII.

Key topics include a 2.25% cap on annual rent increases for stabilized units, updated relocation assistance amounts based on cost-of-living adjustments, a new annual interest rate for security deposits, and a summary of tenant protections and landlord responsibilities. City Rent Stabilization Department staff will be available to answer questions and provide resources. Parking is available nearby, though it will not be validated.

      – Latino Heritage Festival Returns October 11

This year’s Latino Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 5–9 p.m. at Centennial Square, in front of Pasadena City Hall.
The theme, “Un Pasado con Orgullo, un Futuro con Esperanza,” honors the Latino community’s cultural legacy and resilience. Expect live entertainment, family-friendly activities, artisan vendors, delicious food, and community booths.
Note: The traditional parade is on pause this year, but the spirit of celebration remains strong.

The festival is part of Latino Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15).

      – Pasadena Health Urges COVID-19 Vaccine for All Ages Six Months and Up

The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) is urging all residents aged six months and older to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine, following guidance from major health organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The vaccine is highlighted as a safe and effective way to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death, especially for vulnerable groups such as older adults, young children, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions.

PPHD encourages eligible individuals, including those 65 and older and people with qualifying medical conditions, to get vaccinated promptly, with vaccines available through healthcare providers and pharmacies, though availability may vary. The department is working with state and local partners to ensure broad vaccine access, including for uninsured and underinsured residents. Alongside vaccination, PPHD continues to recommend protective measures like handwashing, mask-wearing, and staying home when sick to help reduce COVID-19 spread.
