On July 31, Mayor Victor Gordo and Vice Mayor Jess Rivas joined Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) and the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (PRCS) for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to celebrate the official opening of the Parke Groundwater Well and the newly resurfaced basketball courts at Villa Parke.

The event celebrated a key infrastructure investment designed to strengthen Pasadena’s water supply and enhance community amenities. The new Parke Groundwater Well replaces the century-old Garfield Well and stands as one of the city’s most advanced water resources. Approximately 820 feet deep, it features a submersible pump and motor located nearly 500 feet below ground, with the capacity to produce up to 1,500 gallons of water per minute.
“Continuous investment in our infrastructure is crucial,” said David Reyes, PWP General Manager. “Projects like the Parke Groundwater Well help ensure a resilient water future for Pasadena. Further, in partnership with PRCS, we are excited to reopen the adjacent basketball courts to the community in their new and updated form.”
The first phase of the project began during the COVID-19 pandemic and was completed in April 2022. It included drilling, construction, test pumping, and water quality sampling. The final phase brought mechanical and electrical upgrades to the well site, as well as enhancements to Villa Parke including the basketball courts, lighting, turf, and irrigation system.
