Pasadena’s first Seed Library, at Hill Avenue Branch, provides an opportunity for interested gardeners to ‘borrow’ heirloom and open-pollinated seeds for free.
The goal is to create a self-sustaining seed library where:
- Growers ‘borrow’ the seeds.
- After they have harvested their own crops, they save and return seeds to the seed library.
- Then, the library offers those seeds to other borrowers during the next growing season with the cycle repeating itself.
Over time, the seeds will become stronger and increasingly acclimated to Pasadena’s Mediterranean climate.

What a wonderful idea! I am not such a good gardener, but if I were I’d certainly participate!
