In a renewed push for justice, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger has reinstated a $75,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the 2016 killing of four-year-old Salvador “Chavita” Esparza III.

The announcement comes nearly a decade after the child was tragically shot and killed on July 5, 2016, while standing on the front porch of a relative’s home in Altadena. The case remains unsolved.
“This is a plea to the public,” said Supervisor Barger. “Nine years ago, this innocent child’s life was stolen in a senseless act of violence. Someone knows what happened—and even the smallest tip could be the key to justice. I implore anyone with information to come forward and help us bring closure to the Esparza family.”
Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo also spoke out, urging community members to take action. “Salvador ‘Chavita’ Esparza’s life was needlessly cut short at just four years old. We must not forget this innocent child,” Gordo said. “Supervisor Barger’s leadership in renewing the reward reinforces our shared commitment to accountability and justice.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Division continues to actively investigate the case. Authorities stress that any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could help move the case forward.
