An Autumn Afternoon is a gently heartbreaking story about a man’s dignified resignation to life’s shifting currents and society’s modernization.
By Katlyn Ong
Though the widower Shuhei (Chishu Ryu) has been living comfortably for years with his grown daughter, a series of events leads him to accept and encourage her marriage and departure from their home. Elegantly composed and achingly tender, this film by director Yasujiro Ozu is his final masterpiece.
The film is in Japanese with English subtitles.
The event is free with museum admission. No reservations needed. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the screening. The screening will take place in the Norton Simon Museum Theater.
