Monterey Park’s Recreation and Community Services Department invites the community to join a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration at the Edison Trails Park Playground located at 1600 S. Garfield Avenue in Monterey Park.
By News Desk
The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 4:00 pm. Residents are invited to attend the event and try out the newly installed playground structures.
In October 2022, the Recreation and Community Services Department was awarded a grant from the California Parks & Recreation Society and GameTime to install a National Demonstration Site playground at Edison Trails Park. The project provides a new play structure for children ages 2-5 years and one for ages 5-12. The project also includes the addition of a new fence along Garfield Avenue, a water fountain, and improvements to the concrete pathway at the park.
The new playground is part of a series of highly anticipated 2023-24 projects that will replace playgrounds in the City at Bella Vista, Garvey Ranch, Highlands, and Sequoia Parks.
The National Demonstration Site focuses on promoting physical activity while imploring six essential elements of play: spinning, sliding, swinging, climbing, brachiating, and balancing. In addition, the playground will be listed on the PlayCore National Demonstration Site Map.
As a National Demonstration Site, PlayCore will provide data translation reports on the playground’s contribution to overall community vitality. Playground visitors will be encouraged to participate in the research by scanning the QR code at the playground. This data will assist the Recreation and Community Services Department in promoting the benefits of playgrounds and active play in the community.
