The Pasadena Rental Housing Board (PRHB) is hosting its first in-person workshop geared toward Spanish-speaking tenants.

      By News Desk

In collaboration with PRHB and community partners The Housing Rights Center, National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), and the Pasadena Job Center, “Your Rights, Your Home” will take place on Tuesday, December 5th from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm at the Jackie Robinson Recreation Center.  Seating is limited and reservations are suggested. (RSVP at this link).

The presenter for the December 5th event is Javier Beltran who currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Housing Rights Center and has a background in non-profit law. With experience in civil litigation and immigration law, he holds a BA in history from California State University Los Angeles and a JD from Southwestern University School of Law.

Dianne Romero Chavez, Pasadena Rental Housing Board District 2 Tenant Member, said:

We are looking forward to having members of the Latino community present for a night of tenant education and empowerment.  Online workshops are convenient for some, but we know that there is a need for in-person events because of limited access to things like Zoom.”

The workshop will be presented in Spanish and designed to educate tenants about their rights, including allowable rent increases, just cause for evictions, guidelines for relocation, and tenant buyouts.  Light refreshments and a kid’s activity will be provided.
