The proposed Saturn Street Data Center in Monterey Park will undergo a voluntary Environmental Impact Report (EIR), following hundreds of requests from local residents to investigate the project’s potential environmental effects.

State Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena) announced the development in a statement praising community advocacy and city leadership. Pérez said residents raised concerns with her office, which then amplified calls for an EIR to the Monterey Park City Council on December 3, 2025.
According to Pérez, the City Council is set to consider both a data center moratorium and an EIR for the project, formally known as HMC StratCap 1977 Saturn, LLC, at its meeting.
“This is a major step forward for community advocates and reflects the Monterey Park City Council’s responsiveness to community concerns and feedback,” Pérez said, thanking Mayor Yang and Councilmembers Ngo, Lo, Sanchez, and Wong for their service.
Pérez emphasized that completing the EIR will help the city and residents better understand the proposed development’s potential impacts, including energy demand on the power grid, water usage, and air quality. She said a full environmental study will ensure that community concerns are thoroughly considered before decisions move forward.
