The Monrovia Unified School District Board of Education voted during a special meeting last night to approve the District’s recommendation to consolidate Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School and Clifton Middle School as part of its Fiscal Stabilization Plan.

Under the approved plan, Clifton Middle School will remain open while Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School will close. The consolidation is scheduled to begin in August 2026, taking effect for the 2026–2027 school year.
As part of the action, the Board rescinded a motion made at its January 21 meeting that had called for postponing the decision and conducting further study of the recommendation.
According to the District, additional information regarding the need for expenditure reductions, supporting data, community input meetings, survey results, the consolidation recommendation presentation, and subsequent board meeting updates is available on the Monrovia Unified School District website under School Consolidation Community Information.
The consolidation recommendation supports the District’s Fiscal Stabilization Plan, which was developed to address expenditure reductions required by the Los Angeles County Office of Education in June 2024.
District officials stated that next steps will focus on the process of merging the two schools. At this time, the Board of Education does not intend to sell the Santa Fe property. To keep the facility open and eligible for future funding for facility improvements, the District plans to relocate the smaller staff and student populations from Canyon Oaks High School and Mountain Park School to the Santa Fe site. Additional information will be provided on an ongoing basis.
