Monrovia High School Swim Teams Return Home as Campus Pool Reopens

Monrovia Unified School District (MUSD) announced the reopening of the Monrovia High School swimming pool following the completion of critical repairs made possible through a collaborative partnership with the City of Monrovia.

The pool is scheduled to reopen on January 12, restoring an essential campus facility for students and the broader school community.

The reopening marks a significant milestone for MUSD families, particularly members of the school’s swim and water polo teams, who were required to travel off-site for practices during the pool’s closure. With repairs now complete, student-athletes will once again have access to on-campus practices and competitions.

MUSD Board President Maritza Travant expressed appreciation for the partnership that made the project possible, thanking the City of Monrovia for its financial contribution and acknowledging the patience of student-athletes and their families throughout the renovation process. She noted that the reopening ensures teams have access to a safe, high-quality facility to practice, compete, and host meets.

Monrovia Mayor Becky Shevlin also emphasized the value of collaboration between the City and the School District, noting that the City Council was pleased to partner in reopening the pool. She added that the City values its partnership with the District, including the shared use of elementary school grounds after hours to provide additional recreational opportunities for families.

Superintendent Dr. Paula Hart Rodas said the reopening is welcome news for families who expressed concern and disappointment during the closure. She noted that with the pool back in operation, student-athletes will no longer need to travel to Citrus College or other area facilities for aquatic programs.

Monrovia High School Principal Dr. Matt Rainwater highlighted the collective effort behind the project, citing the leadership of the School Board, Superintendent, the City of Monrovia, and Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation Director Jonathan Nava. He described the pool as a vital school resource and said its reopening ensures the continued success of a highly valued program, allowing Wildcats to return to the water with modernized equipment.
