Los Angeles transit officials have approved plans for a major rail expansion that aims to significantly improve connectivity across the region. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will extend the K Line underground from the E Line north to Hollywood, where it will connect with the B Line, C Line, D Line, and E Lines.

The project is expected to serve six of Los Angeles’ busiest bus corridors and improve access to jobs, healthcare, and entertainment destinations throughout the county.
Following the Metro Board’s approval, Supervisor Kathryn Barger called the project a transformative investment in the region’s transportation system.
“This is an incredible project that will transform connectivity across Los Angeles County,” Barger said in a statement.
She pointed to ongoing challenges near the Hollywood Bowl, a major cultural venue in her district that often experiences heavy congestion during events.
“Anyone who has attended an event or lives nearby knows the challenges: heavy congestion, persistent traffic, and gridlock that impact quality of life for residents and visitors alike,” she said.
Barger said a station at the Hollywood Bowl would be “a true game changer,” helping to ease traffic and improve mobility in the area. She emphasized the importance of following through on the commitment, noting that public trust in Metro depends on delivering projects as promised.
“I’ve heard it time and again—credibility matters when it comes to Metro,” she said. “That’s why it’s so important that we follow through on this commitment.”
Barger added that she is confident the project will move forward without delay and expressed hope it will be completed within residents’ lifetimes.
“I look forward to the day I can take that ride myself,” she said. “When that day comes, it will stand as a testament to the advocacy, persistence, and shared vision that were on full display today.”
