Lauren Gray is graduating with a 4.6 GPA.

This year, Lauren Gray was enrolled at Muir High School and at Pasadena City College. She majored in Gender Ethnic Studies, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences and Social Justice studies, and earned four Associate of Arts degrees in addition to her high school diploma. She was Senior Class President, Captain of the cheer team, Associated Student Body Alumni Commissioner, and a Pasadena City College Dual Enrollment Student Ambassador. In addition, her volunteer work includes assisting in teaching youth Mandarin Chinese at her former elementary school, being a Pasadena City Youth Ambassador at community events, and advocating for equity in all Pasadena schools as a member of the PUSD’s Student Think Tank. Lauren has also organized voter registration drives at her school by partnering with the League of Women’s Voters. After graduating from college, Lauren would like to work in the political law and legal field, combatting inequities that impact marginalized communities.
Lauren will be attending UCLA in the fall to pursue a BA in Public Affairs. Her parents, Muir Principal Lawton Gray and Willard teacher Melanie Gray said: “Congratulations to our daughter Lauren on being named Class Valedictorian at the Senior Awards Ceremony. We are so proud of you and all of your hard work and dedication! We are so proud of all of her hard work and accomplishments. We look forward to what lies ahead in her future!”
Muir Academy training
She was a student in the Arts, Entertainment and Media (AEM) Academy, where she trained in film and television, video production, graphic design, animation, photography, and other visual and performing arts and media. She participated in on and off-campus industry-specific college and career workshops and field studies. She collaborated with industry professionals and peers to plan, organize, direct, film, edit, produce, and distribute Public Service Announcements, short films, and mini-documentaries.
UCLA programs
Lauren participated in the Vice-Provost’s Initiative for Pre-College Scholars (VIPS) program, a competitive college mentorship and academic advising program for under-represented students. She attended a 5-week residential program on UCLA’s campus, taking two courses, and receiving college credit. She was accepted into a cohort of 35 students in LA county, as a finalist for Vice Provost Award, qualifying for a $25,000 scholarship upon admittance to UCLA. She also participated in UCLA’s Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP which provided academic advising, summer enrichment programs, and college field trips.
