Ninety-one students, teachers, parents, and chaperones from Marshall’s arts program waited outside the school. All waited for buses to go to LAX. They would be taken to Newark International Airport for a four-day trip to New York City.
Students from four of Marshall’s arts programs were invited to come: orchestra, band, choir and drama.
The students will fly to New York city for two days, to visit Times Square and attend a Broadway musical, Dear Evan Hansen.
On Saturday, three groups will perform at a music competition in Riverside Church in Manhattan. Drama will attend a workshop, after which they will cap off their trip with a dinner cruise.
Marshall’s jazz band will be performing two classics for their show: Whiplash (from the movie with the same name) and Bohemian Rhapsody. Jazz band trumpeter Adrian Crisanti said, “I’m definitely excited but I’m kind of nervous.”
This trip comes on the heels of the Big Apple Preview Concert, an event held by the school this Tuesday specifically to promote their trip. Eunice Manik, a Marshall Chamber Orchestra violinist, said, “It went pretty well, I think, but I’m more excited for how it’s going to go in New York, since that’s when all the nerves are going to happen.”
