On June 8, 2023, at approximately 9:15 pm, a South Pasadena Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the area of Fremont Avenue and Alhambra Road.

The vehicle failed to yield and a short pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the passenger threw a black bag out of the vehicle. The vehicle eventually yielded, and two occupants were detained. Officers recovered the bag and located a handgun wrapped in a black ski mask. The passenger was identified as 37-year-old James Reed of Los Angeles.
Reed was arrested and booked for PC 29800(a)(1), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and other firearm-related offenses. The female driver was charged with misdemeanor evading and a firearms offense. Due to the current zero-bail policies within Los Angeles County, Reed was booked, cited, and released to appear at a later court date.
