- As a procedure, emergency vehicles, and at times helicopters, will survey the area for any visible damages.
- So the M6.4 was a foreshock. This was a M7.1 on the same fault as has been producing the Searles Valley sequence. This is part of the same sequence.
~ Dr. Lucy Jones - @PasadenaFD Pasadena Fire Department is on earthquake mode with units inspecting their districts. No damage has been reported thus far. As a reminder, only call 911 to report emergencies.
- Reports of rocking electrical wires on the streets and chandeliers swaying inside homes on social media.

- Reports of residents fleeing Trona, a town 11 miles from Ridgcrest, after the strong earthquake hit. Electricity was restored today but lost again after the 6.9 quake.

KERN RIVER CANYON: State Route 178 CLOSED due to rock slide in the Kern River Canyon. No ETO, Caltrans in route to access damage and determine removal from slide. - NBA announces rest of tonight’s games at Thomas & Mack Center will be postponed after earthquake interruption.

Like any quake, today’s M7.1 has a 1 in 20 of being followed by something even bigger. Smaller quakes – M5s are likely and a M6 is quite possible.
@DrLucyJones - Earthquake is updated to M7.1 and it’s considered a foreshock to Thursday’s event. It’s all “semantic” according to Dr. Jones.
- No tsunami or damage reported after three more earthquakes recorded off British Columbia.

- No Damages in Pasadena:
Earthquake surveys by PFD personnel have now concluded and no damage has been reported. Aftershocks are still likely, so take action now to be prepared.
@PasadenaFD - If an earthquake happens, protect yourself right away. Drop, Cover, then Hold On: – If in a vehicle, pull over and stop. – If in bed, stay there. – If outdoors, stay outdoors. – Do not get in a doorway. – Do not run outside.

~ BNO News (@BNONews) - 54 aftershocks occurred since the 7.1 earthquake this evening.
- This evening earthquake was 10 times stronger than Thursday’s quake.
- Prepare NOW:
- Secure items, such as televisions, and objects that hang on walls. Store heavy and breakable objects on low shelves.
- Practice Drop, Cover, then Hold On with family and coworkers. Drop to your hands and knees. Cover your head and neck with your arms. Crawl only as far as needed to reach cover from falling materials. Hold on to any sturdy furniture until the shaking stops.
- Create a family emergency communications plan that has an out-of-state contact. Plan where to meet if you get separated.
- Make a supply kit that includes enough food and water for at least three days, a flashlight, a fire extinguisher, and a whistle. Consider each person’s specific needs, including medication. Do not forget the needs of pets. Have extra batteries and charging devices for phones and other critical equipment.
- Consider obtaining an earthquake insurance policy. Standard homeowner’s insurance does not cover earthquake damage.
- Consider a retrofit of your building to correct structural issues that make it vulnerable to collapse during an earthquake.
