Artistic Director Hilary Thomas’s dream finally comes to life in an unforgettable production of Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, RENT.

      By News Desk

After 25 years of nurturing talent, creativity, and vision, Lineage Performing Arts Center’s Artistic Director Hilary Thomas is set to bring one of the most iconic musicals of our time to the stage. RENT, the groundbreaking musical by Jonathan Larson, is hitting the stage this season, and it promises to be a powerful, emotional experience for audiences.

For Thomas, the moment to stage RENT has been years in the making. “I’ve been dreaming about this production for years,” she says. “Now, with an incredible cast and crew, we’re ready to share this beautiful story of love, resilience, and the power of community in the face of adversity.”

RENT, which is loosely based on Puccini’s La Bohème, follows the lives of a group of young artists and musicians in New York’s Lower East Side. The show’s characters struggle to survive, create, and love in a world shadowed by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It’s a story of pain and passion, dreams and heartbreak, that has continued to resonate with audiences for over two decades.

The production will feature Lineage Dancers, adding a unique artistic flair to the show. Their dynamic choreography will breathe new life into the already powerful musical, showcasing the intersection of dance, drama, and music in a way that only Lineage can.

RENT’s beloved characters – Roger, Mimi, Tom, Angel, Maureen, Joanne, and Benny – grapple with issues of love, loss, and survival. As the group navigates their dreams and relationships, they must also contend with the harsh realities of living in a time of crisis. Themes of community, hope, and the search for identity are at the heart of this show, which has become a symbol of artistic rebellion and resilience.

The story is raw, unfiltered, and undeniably real. With its adult themes, including strong language, sexual references, drug use, and the exploration of HIV/AIDS, this production is intended for mature audiences. Parental guidance is suggested, and children under the age of 8 will not be admitted.

Tickets for the highly anticipated show are available now. Don’t miss your chance to experience RENT in this reimagined production, and be part of a performance that will leave an indelible mark on the soul.
