Lineage Hosts John Muir Mystic Dancers for “Metropolis” show

The future takes center stage this March as the John Muir Mystics present Metropolis, an Afrofuturist dance concert inspired by the first four albums of musical artist Janelle Monáe.

Blending movement with themes of freedom, identity and rebellion, Metropolis reimagines Afrofuturism through dance. The performance draws creative inspiration from Monáe’s early conceptual works, which explore futuristic narratives, self-discovery and resistance.

The production will run March 6–8 and March 13–15 at the Lineage Performing Arts Center. Presented by the John Muir Mystics, the concert aims to transform the stage into a space of artistic revolution, bringing Afrofuturist storytelling to life through choreography and performance.

Organizers say the event is also designed to be accessible for young audiences. Teen attendees can use a pass from TeenTix to purchase tickets for $5 or less, encouraging more teens to experience live performing arts.

Seating is limited, and attendees are encouraged to reserve their spots in advance.
