It was a bittersweet ending to a stellar season at the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena last Saturday night.
Renee Bodie, Executive Director of the Levitt Pavilion, took to the mic before the first musical act, Brother Sun, to reflect. Then she introduced the Mayor of Pasadena, Bill Bogaard.
Mayor Bogaard spoke about the quality of the music at the Levitt Pavilion as being “at the highest level.” He commented on the internship program that “gives the participants the maturity, the perspective, and the experience so that they may succeed in the tough, demanding jobs of the future.” He then thanked the audience for being “loyal fans of the Levitt.”
District 3 Councilmember John J. Kennedy praised the interns for their hard work. He also praised the venue, which falls in his district, for its quality musical acts and superb programming.
Darrell Brooke, president of Levitt Pavilion Pasadena, announced that Ms. Liz Levitt Hirsch, board president of Levitt Pavilions, had asked him to remain in his position for another year.
Then it was time to honor all the volunteers who worked tirelessly, night after night, throughout the summer. Dana Sparks, Sponsorship and Intern Coordinator, handed out awards of recognition to all present interns and spoke warmly about their achievements throughout the season.
Opening act Brother Sun took to the stage and mesmerized the audience with their harmonies and poignant lyrics (look for their interview with our music writer later on today). After a brief pause to set up, John Fullbright came for the last performance of the season and delivered a spectacular set of songs that kept the audience wanting more.
Every Summer, Memorial Park transforms into a place that connects a diverse audience with the pavilion and ultimately with one another, weaving a common thread that connects us all through music.
Once again, the Levitt Pavilion becomes the thread that weaves a relationship between the park and the audience via its musical programing.
For that, we thank the Levitt organization and look forward to another stellar season.
