Celebrating a century (and one year) since its release, The Gold Rush spins its charming spell on Friday, January 9th at 4:15 pm, courtesy of Norton Simon Museum’s “All That Glitters” film series. Enjoy the newly restored film free with admission to the museum.

Introduced by Caltech’s Professor of Visual Culture Brian Jacobson, the film is presented in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition Gold: Enduring Power, Sacred Craft.

Writer/director/composer and star Charlie Chaplin charts a prospector’s search for fortune in the Klondike and his discovery of romance (Georgia Hale). Shot partly on location in the Sierra Nevadas and featuring such timeless gags as the dance of the dinner rolls and the meal of boiled shoe leather, The Gold Rush is an indelible work of heartwarming hilarity. Presented in a new restoration of the original silent film.
