Former Environmental Sustainability Commission President Katie Chan has officially declared her candidacy for Alhambra City Council District 4.

      By News Desk

Katie Chan (陳靄淇) is a product of the English and Chinese schools within Alhambra, going to Marguerita, Dewey, Ynez Elementary School, and Sun Yat Sen Chinese Institute. Emphasizing a community-centric approach, Chan aims to foster stronger connections between residents and City Hall.

“In my time serving on the Environmental Sustainability Commission, I’ve witnessed the desire of District 4 residents for more responsive and proactive leadership,” stated Chan.

Reflecting on the legacy of Councilwoman Sasha Renée Pérez, Chan acknowledged the strides made in Alhambra but stressed the need for a renewed focus on community-driven governance. “Councilwoman Sasha Renée Pérez’s tenure exemplified progress, but now is the time for a city council that truly represents and serves its residents, putting people over profits,” expressed Katie. “It’s about pushing for a city council that prioritizes the community in every decision.”

Katie Chan’s educational path took her through Mark Keppel High School and East Los Angeles College. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in Geography at UCLA.

After graduating, Katie got involved in public policy, doing pro bono work at the Public Counsel law firm. Most recently she is a caseworker for the City of Los Angeles for Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez and was appointed by Alhambra City Councilwoman Sasha Renee-Perez as the President and Commissioner of the Environmental & Sustainability Commission for Alhambra’s District 4.

Chan says she’s currently the only candidate refusing donations from corporations and special interests, stating, “It’s not enough to oppose special interests. We need to tell them loudly and proudly that District 4 is not for sale.”

Four candidates: Noya Yang, Katie Chan, Nicolas Kiet Quach and Je-Show Yang are running for the Dist. 4 seat. The domain name katiechanforalhambra.com was registered on March 23, 2024. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
