Great Event, Great Spirits at the “Just Doing GREAT Stuff!” event hosting Rob Hopkins.
Repair Cafe kicked in the event with a great turn out. Then Rob Hopkins showed up and got a tour of the lawn-turned-into-a-Learning-Garden and then was ushered into the church to a full house.
The Throop Church’s sanctuary had close to 220 people with some people lining up the walls. Rev. Tera Little introduced the mayor of Pasadena Bill Bogaard who spoke about the city’s work on achieving green goals and highlighting few of them. Rob Hopkins spoke for almost an hour highlighting the transition movement all over the world with a slide show in the background.
A Q&A followed then Rob was ushered for a photo op with Pasadena Councilmember John J. Kennedy. Also many pictures were taken of Rob with the energetic Therese Brummel and the Pasadena Transition/Time Bank kitchen staff.
A delicious lunch prepared by Transition chef and artist Greg Marquez was enjoyed by all while music was being played on the piano courtesy of David Cutter.
Many wonderful organizations set up shop in the patio touting their goals creating a wonderful feel for a fair of enlightening ideas, goals and movements. Rob signed his books and was accessible to everyone who wanted to talk, then he head upstairs for a KPFK lengthy interview while Time Bankers from all over helped clean up in the Throop hall and the kitchen.
What a great event organized by Ginko Ching Lee with the help of 60 great spirited volunteers matched by an enthusiastic crowd and colored by donations from Muir Ranch who had their vegetables lining the hallway for everyone to take. We learned that other wonderful organizations had also donated organic food to the event as well.
This was a great spirited event that need to be repeated on smaller scales all over Southern California for everyone to meet, interact, learn and have fun.
