Juan Carlos Perez, a marketing director for a Pasadena firm, has declared his candidacy for Pasadena Unified School Board of Education, District 2.

Perez began his career as a teacher, and he currently serves as a marketing director for a Pasadena-based firm that creates custom software and solves problems in industries ranging from education to entertainment to aerospace to music technology. As a teacher, Perez taught students in elementary schools, high schools, and colleges, and he also mentored veterans at Wesleyan University and business professionals through South by Southwest, SXSW.
Perez said:
My mission is to ensure every child in our district receives the highest quality education, regardless of their background. I believe in modernizing our schools, integrating technology, and fostering inclusive environments. Our kids deserve the best, and I am dedicated to making that a reality.”
Born in Peru, Perez immigrated to the US at a young age. After earning his bachelor’s degree with high honors from Wesleyan University, he attended the University of California Berkeley to pursue graduate studies in comparative literature, focusing on medieval German, French, and Latin.
In addition to Juan Carlos’ work in marketing and mentorship, he has spoken at SXSW on issues regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Juan Carlos lives in Altadena with his wife, Beth, three children, one of whom graduated from Blair High School, and their rescue dogs Xavi and Harlow.
District 2 is currently represented by PUSD Board Member, Jennifer Hall Lee, who is seeking reelection.
