On Tuesday, March 11th, a rally will take place at the Pasadena Community Job Center, where local activists and community members will come together to demand that polluters pay for the environmental damages they’ve caused and urge the state to end its support for fossil fuel investments.

The rally, set to begin at 11:00 am, will feature influential speakers, heartfelt performances, and a significant street mural that will come to life, designed by fire survivor Eddie Aparicio, inspired by the devastating L.A. fires.
The rally, titled “Invest in Communities, Not Fossil Fuels,” will focus on the harmful effects of California’s continued investments in fossil fuel companies through supposedly “green” sustainable investment funds. Protesters will call for new legislation to hold polluters accountable for their environmental destruction, particularly in communities severely impacted by climate-fueled disasters.
A key moment of the event will be the unveiling of a powerful mural painted from the ashes of the Los Angeles fires. This moving tribute, designed by Aparicio, aims to raise awareness about the long-lasting effects of climate disasters. The mural represents not just the destruction but also the resilience of fire survivors, many of whom have lost their homes and are now facing the overwhelming reality of being climate refugees.
In addition to the mural, attendees will hear from compelling speakers and performers who will share personal stories, including testimonies from those who have been directly impacted by climate-pollution-fueled fires. The rally will also highlight the financial burden communities are left with as they recover, with many pointing to the billions of dollars in profits made by oil giants like Chevron, while California’s tax dollars are used to finance recovery efforts.
The rally underscores the injustice of the situation: in the wake of catastrophic fires that displaced 150,000 people and claimed lives, communities are left to pick up the pieces. Meanwhile, California’s state pension funds continue to support oil companies, further jeopardizing the future of these communities.
Food will be provided, and Spanish translation will be available for the event. This rally is not only a call to action but also a chance to build a better future—one where the health of the environment and the well-being of communities are prioritized over corporate profits.
