Even as fall rolls in, the San Gabriel Valley is no stranger to extreme weather, including late-season heatwaves.

That’s why we’re working with a statewide program called Power Saver Rewards, alongside other community-based organizations, to share how each of us can make a difference during Flex Alerts and even earn a credit on our electric bills when we do.
What is Power Saver Rewards?
Created by the California Public Utilities Commission, Power Saver Rewards offers utility bill credits to Californians, both renters and homeowners, who reduce electricity use during a Flex Alert. These alerts typically happen between 4:00 and 9:00 pm on hot days when energy demand outpaces supply.
How to Participate
It’s simple. When a Flex Alert is issued, take a few easy steps to conserve energy:
- Set your thermostat to 78°F
- Unplug unused electronics
- Delay energy-heavy chores like laundry or dishwashing
The more energy you save, the more you can earn,, and there’s no special equipment or penalty if you don’t reduce usage on a given day.
Why It Matters
Our region is home to many vulnerable residents—seniors, people with disabilities, and families who depend on reliable power for their health and safety. Even as temperatures begin to cool, Flex Alerts can still be called at any time.
By participating through October 31, you’re not just saving energy, you’re helping keep the grid stable for your neighbors who need it most.
