The City of Pasadena has plenty of room for improvement when it comes to the number of collisions involving pedestrians that result in injury or death, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety.
By Greg Gunther
When compared to 54 other CA cities of similar size, Pasadena ranked:
- 4th worst insofar as pedestrian-auto collisions
- 3rd worst involving pedestrians aged 65+
- 3rd worst for in the auto-bicycle category.
Overall the City ranked 2nd worst for total number of collisions resulting in injury or death. These stats can be accessed here.
The bottom line is our streets should provide safety and comfort for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders, not only automobile drivers.
As a resident of Pasadena, you can make this happen tonight as the long push for new Transportation Metrics reaches the final “Moment of Truth” at Pasadena City Council.
Transportation Staff’s recommendations are balanced across modes.
The board of Downtown Pasadena Neighborhood Association (DPNA) enthusiastically supports this important change for Pasadena.
Join us at City Hall for Item #15 at tonight’s Council Meeting.
If you can’t be there in person, you can send an e-mail to MJomsky@cityofpasadena.net and let Mayor and Council know that you fully support Transportation Staff’s recommendations.
See Staff Report for additional details.
