The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has extended a Flood Advisory for Los Angeles County as heavy rain continues to sweep through the region Tuesday morning.
By News Desk
At 9:30 am, Doppler radar indicated significant rainfall due to thunderstorms moving through southwest California. Between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen in parts of the county, with an additional 1 to 2 inches expected before noon.
The advisory is now in effect until 12:00 pm today and warns of minor flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas. Roadways across the region, especially in coastal and urban neighborhoods, may become hazardous due to standing water.
Communities at risk include:
- Long Beach
- Santa Monica
- Malibu
- Venice
- Beverly Hills
- Downtown Los Angeles
- North Hollywood
- Van Nuys
- Redondo Beach
- Inglewood
- Culver City
- Hollywood
- Burbank, and others.
The National Weather Service urges residents to avoid driving through flooded roads, reminding the public that “most flood deaths occur in vehicles.” Drivers should follow the motto: Turn around, don’t drown.
Residents observing flooding are encouraged to report conditions to local emergency services, who can pass the information along to the National Weather Service, but only if it is safe to do so.
