Summer is in full swing across Southern California, with the US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard forecasting continued hot and dry conditions well into next week. Daytime highs are expected to hover near triple digits through Monday, presenting a moderate risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Officials are urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during peak heat, and refrain from any activities that could spark fires. The warning comes in the wake of the Canyon Fire, which ignited on Thursday and spread quickly in dry interior areas.
Here’s what to expect in the days ahead:
- Today (Friday, August 8): Sunny and hot, high near 100°F, with a mild south-southwest breeze around 10 mph.
- Tonight: Mostly clear with a low around 59°F, calm winds overnight.
- Saturday–Monday (August 9-11): Continuation of sunny, hot days with highs ranging from 96°F to 98°F. Nights will remain mostly clear with lows around 59°F.
- Tuesday–Thursday (August 12-14): A gradual cooling trend begins, with highs dropping to the upper 80s by Thursday. Patchy morning fog is expected to return midweek, bringing some relief to coastal and valley regions.
With fire danger elevated due to the persistent dry heat, authorities are emphasizing caution. “Any fire starts in interior areas could grow rapidly,” warned the weather service. “Avoid anything that could create a spark.”
Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts and limit strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day.
