Pasadena Department of Transportation has been tracking the effects of the opening of the Gold Line to Asuza earlier this year, particularly on ridership on Pasadena Transit.
With a full month of data available from City sources, that information has been used to look at how conditions differ from the same month in 2015.*
Wide ridership
Pasadena Transit system wide ridership in March 2016 increased 3% over March ridership in 2015.
Route 10
Route 10 (Colorado Route that connects to the Gold Line at the Allen Station) saw a 22.5% increase vs. March 2015 and carried 14,539 riders.
- This is the highest month-over-month percentage growth for Route 10 of Fiscal Year 2016.
- Route 10 had a significant service Increase 1.5 years ago which has still provided an average 14% increase over last year. This month, 22.5% increase is higher than the 14% average increase this fiscal year.
Route 30
Route 30 (connects Northwest Pasadena to the SMV Station) is partially funded through the Job Access Reverse Commute (JARC) grant).
- Route 30 had a total of 27,408 riders over, March 2016. This is an 11.7% increase over March 2015.
- This increase represents the highest month-over-month percentage growth for Route 30 since January 2014.
Route 50
Route 50 grew by 3% over March 2015, to 5147 riders. There was a dramatic jump in the Free fare category that is attributed to City Employees connecting from the Gold Line Foothill Extension to the City Yards. This route connects the City Yards to the Gold Line.
Transfers from Foothill Transit declined by 34.9% over March 2015. This may indicate that riders are transferring from the Gold Line Foothill Extension In lieu of using the Foothill Transit 187.
*Ridership statistics are not yet available from Metro for the Gold Line for March 2016, so the following observations are only for Pasadena Transit.
