Transit Equity Day is a national day of action held in honor of Rosa Parks’ birthday. The day highlights the principle that public transit is a civil right and calls attention to the role transportation plays in equity and access for all communities.
Rosa Parks, an iconic civil rights leader, sparked a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement when she refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Her act of protest challenged discriminatory transit policies and helped lead to the desegregation of public transportation systems.
By offering free rides, Pasadena Transit and Dial-A-Ride are recognizing Parks’ legacy and reaffirming the importance of accessible and equitable public transportation.
