      Mental Wellness Expo cityofsangabriel

The City of San Gabriel, in collaboration with the San Gabriel Human Equity, Access, and Relations (HEAR) Commission, invites families and community to participate in the free Mental Wellness Expo on Sunday, October 1 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm in the Mission District.

      By News Desk

The event is a significant step towards prioritizing mental health for communities in the San Gabriel Valley. It will also feature a guest speaker appearance by Brandon Tsay, who played a pivotal role in preventing further loss of life during the Monterey Park shooting incident on January 21, 2023. Committed to promoting community mental health awareness and destigmatizing mental health issues, Tsay will share his journey in coping with his own mental health since the incident and the strategies he used to address his struggles.

The program will shed light on how to manage mental wellness through a series of workshops; offer resources and valuable knowledge from various community groups; provide complimentary relaxation and mindfulness experiences; and help connect those interested in various mental health topics with services available in San Gabriel Valley and beyond.

These useful workshops will be offered in English and translated live to Spanish and Mandarin:

      • Suicide Prevention Training at 1:00 pm
This workshop will dive into the critical topic of suicide prevention. Attendees can gain knowledge on identifying warning signs, approaching individuals with suicidal thoughts, and connecting them with appropriate mental health resources.
      • Understanding Depression and Growing Resilience at 1:00 pm
Attendees will learn to differentiate between sadness and clinical depression, explore how culture influences depression, and discover strategies to promote resilience.
      • Defining Loneliness and Creating Connections at 2:30 pm
Attendees will understand the signs and symptoms of loneliness, identify vulnerable individuals, and acquire effective strategies for building social connections.
      • Understanding Childhood Behaviors and Disorders at 2:30 pm
Attendees can gain insights into adolescent development, effective parenting techniques, and the symptoms of childhood behavioral disorders in this workshop.

In addition, the Mental Wellness Expo will feature free mindfulness sessions where attendees can drop in and experience self-care and relaxation techniques, such as yoga, sound baths, and Tai Chi.
