The iconic fountain is one of eight recently touted by KCET’s Sandi Hemmerlein as one of L.A. most fascinating fountains. Hemmerlein notes that the fountain actually is an integral part of the plant, replacing an original cooling tower. The Pasadena logo with lightning bolts is featured in its tiled circular basin.
Before and after?
We were planning on showing a “before and after” photo of the fountain, but it still looks the same! Hard to believe that this photo dates back to Christmas Eve, 1938 (courtesy of the private collection of Pasadena artist and poet, Sharon Hawley).
We wish you the gifts of happiness, good health, and joy on this holiday season!

Magical memory (1958-1978 timeframe) was watching the colored lights change (underwater) while waiting for a red light.
