Among the quieter stories of resilience in our community is the annual “Light Up” festival of holiday lights in the Upper Hastings Ranch neighborhood.
By Melanie Hooks
This tradition began in 1951 when a few Ranch families decorated their driveways with luminaria (paper bags with candles) to guide Santa Claus.
In 1952, it continued when a homeowner created the first wooden parkway display, and the competition was on! Then, in January of this year, over 70 homes were damaged or destroyed by the Eaton Fire. Thankfully, that hasn’t dampened the spirit of those lighting up once again this year.
Join the neighborhood to explore themed streets, creative decorations, and help celebrate the bright lights once more.
Light Up begins Saturday, December 6 and runs through December 31. Lights are on from 6:00 – 10:00 pm nightly.
