Tuna Canyon History Exhibit (Photo – Descanso Gardens)
The Tuna Canyon History Exhibit at Descanso Gardens, assembled by the Tuna Canyon Detention Station Coalition, tells the story of Tuna Canyon Detention Station.
Located only five miles from Descanso Gardens, this former Civilian Conservation Corps camp was used during World War II to hold and process people of Japanese, German, and Italian descent who were considered “enemy aliens” by the US government.
In the years it operated, 1941-1943, over 2,000 people passed through the camp. This exhibition tells their stories.
The Tuna Canyon History Exhibit will be on display in the Japanese Garden. No reservations required, included with admission or membership.
