Galen Wilkes will present about the Edison Talking Machine at the Pasadena Senior Center on September 19 at 2:00 pm.
Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877. It was first marketed as a dictation tool for business, but soon became a major source for entertainment. Original vintage cylinders of wax and celluloid will be played and demonstrated on a 1908 Edison.

Galen Wilkes
Galen Wilkes has been fascinated with the arts and entertainment of the late 19th and early 20th centuries since he was a kid. By his high school years, he began putting on silent film shows around Southeastern Connecticut. In college, he began broadcasting, using his knowledge of ragtime music, resources and contacts in both New York and California. As a pianist and composer, he has published six volumes of his works, centering on ragtime and related styles. He combines history with entertainment, scholarship with showmanship, and is dedicated to historic preservation of all types.
