“ROTO PASADENA” is a festive, live art event created by Pasadena artists Lisa Mann and Yo-Yo Lin, in collaboration with Northwest Pasadena teen groups to create artwork about living in Pasadena.
As part of their research, one group interviewed Pasadena Police officers and City Council member Tyron Hampton to gain an understanding of their mission and responsibilities. The other teen group wrote and performed a spoken word poem called “Pasadena: My City Is a Place Where…”
These video projects have been digitally hand-traced or “rotoscoped” by Lisa, Yo-Yo, and a team of animation artists, to create colorful animations that will be projected directly onto the massive gates of the Pasadena Central Library and the facade of the Police Station as a site-specific installation.
The mission is to use art to open a two-way dialogue and create empathy and understanding between Pasadena officials and decision-makers and the diverse citizens they protect and serve.
Free event with plenty of free street parking.
Local food trucks Rodney’s Ribs and Pie ‘n Burger will be there!
